The compressor is one of the most important mechanical elements of air conditioners with mechanical cooling cycles used today.

It can be considered as the heart of the air conditioning cooling system. Compressors, in terms of their internal structure, consist of mechanically moving parts, which are the most common causes of malfunction. It is the main element of the cooling system that absorbs the low pressure refrigerant fluid with its mechanical structure in the cooling cycle and performs the function of compressing and compressing it at high pressure.

Today, compressors with three different structures are generally used in home air conditioners. Of course, the work they do within the cooling cycle logic is the same. What distinguishes them from each other is the mechanical structure used for suction and compression. They are named considering this mechanical structure used in compressors. For example, the internal structure of the compressor, which we call a piston type compressor, has mechanical parts such as pistons, cylinders and cranks for the suction and compression process. Based on their general structure, it is possible to classify the most commonly used compressor types in home air conditioners as shown in Picture 2.1 below.
The following features are sought in compressors used in air conditioning systems.
– Rotation moments should be as low as possible during first starts
– Maintaining safety and security under different working conditions
– Vibration and noise levels do not exceed certain levels under partial and full loads and under various conditions.
– Continuous capacity control and wide load variation, ability to adapt to operating regime
– Ability to provide unit cooling value by consuming less power
– Their efficiency does not decrease even at partial loads
– There is a safety device in case of refrigerant liquid shocks and operation at high pressure and temperature.
– Its cost is as low as possible

However, it can be said that there is no compressor that has all of these characteristics. Depending on the conditions in the application, the compressor that can provide the most of the above characteristics is preferred.
